I always believed that honest politician is an oxymoron. I firmly felt that maybe the politician in question is a honest person in all other respects; the minute politics comes into the picture, honesty leaves. This is not to say that the person is to be blamed, or he/she voluntarily stopped being honest. Politics is a game, and to win the game you have to play by rules. Politicians start the game with best intentions; they truly believe that they will make a difference. However, as the game progresses, they have to change to fit the rules. But TSI’s cover story, "A few good men.." (TSI, Jan 19-25) was truly an eye-opener. At least, there are a few handful honest politicians who have entered the political arena saying, "My campaign is going to stick to the issues, there will be no mud slinging." Thankfully, there are a few who do not belong to the category of believing, politics is about what is best for the politician and the political party.
