Lerwill was appointed the non-executive director of Aegis Group in 2000. Prior to joining Aegis Group, he served in WPP Plc as its Finance Director from 1986 to 1996. Lerwill indulged in various acquisitions in different domains of advertising to expand Aegis' presence in all facets of media buying, besides spreading its footprint across the globe. Targets included Heartland Media Group dealing in out-of-home advertising in China & Hong Kong; experiential marketing firm MenCompany in Italy; Full Circle Media in South Africa and Internet advertising agency Communicate 2 in India.

The year 2008 was certainly not the best year for both Lerwill and Aegis Media. Where on one hand, Aegis Media lost the prestigious Nissan account; Mainardo de Nardis, CEO, Aegis Media and David Verklin, Head of Aegis Media US also quit the company.
